General Investigations

Responsibilities & Services

The General Investigative Unit handles a wide variety of crimes here at the local level and also works in conjunction with other county, state, and federal agencies.

All crimes should first be reported to us through the dispatch center and when appropriate the information will be forwarded to General Investigations. There are times, however, when the public will be asked to report a crime to another agency.

Crimes that involve internet fraud and child pornography should be reported to the federal government as they investigate such crimes.

Calls reporting mail fraud, telephone fraud, etc., are handled through the sheriff's office.

Anyone wishing to report a crime can contact the Sheriff's Office at 218-829-4749 or Submit a Tip online.
