Wireless 911

There are an estimated 300 million cell phones that are being used today in the United States. More and more households are abandoning their landline phones and relying only on wireless phones to save money.

When calling 911 on your wireless/cell phone, it is very important to know where you are. Current technology often provides excellent location information from these phones when you call 911. Sometimes the dispatcher will only receive an indication of which cell tower your phone is transmitting through.

In 2006, Crow Wing County received 19,503 911 calls in which 5,183 were wireless 911 calls. In 2010, we received 31,147 911 calls in which 19,509 were wireless 911 calls.
